I teach Acting and Theater History at several Philadelphia area institutions, including the Ira Brind School of the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, at Temple University, and at the Walnut Street Theatre Education Department. I have also taught in the past at Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell, the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, and the University of Minnesota BA program.
As an Adjunct Assistant Professor at UArts, I co-teach a Theater History course that involves the full scope of the history of the theater, with additional emphasis on including the history of Musical Theater. My work as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Temple University involves leading 'writing intensive' classes for undergraduates, helping them with methods for researching and writing about theater and Theater History.
I have also taught a "Teen Shakespeare" acting class at the Walnut Street Theater Education Program. Every week I met with a group of local teenage actors, and hone their skills in Shakespearean text. We had our final 'showcase' for the families of the students in March of 2018. As I predicted, the Pyramus and Thisbe section of "Midsummer Night's Dream" was a big hit with everybody!
During the Summer of 2017, I taught a scene study course for adults at the Walnut Street Theatre on 'Acting with Classic Texts'. Previously I have taught scene study classes there on acting in the plays of such authors as Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller, Shakespeare, Ibsen, and Chekhov. Last Fall, there was a class on Speaking with a British Accent -
Since the Fall of 2015 I have been a Senior Lecturer at the University of Arts, teaching Theater History. This class covers the entire history of
theater practice, playwriting, and design - in many world cultures. I continue to teach this course through the 2018-19 academic year.
I also offer private acting lessons, and have coached many actors and acting students with monologues and scenes for auditions.
Typically, I teach at my home. But I could also come to an agreed-upon rehearsal space, if that would make the student more comfortable.
My typical rate is $60 per hour, or $30 for a half hour.
The initial lesson is half price! If you'd like to work together again after that, the normal rate applies.
Juvenile students must be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian.
